In relation to Monotheism considered as such, Judaism stabilized but “confiscated” the Message; Christianity universalized but “altered” it; Islam in turn restored it by stabilizing and universalizing it.

About This Quote

Monotheism is a way of looking at the world. All three religions have a belief in a single god. And all three religions have a role for humans in this God's creation. But there is a difference between the way these religions approach this belief, and the roles of humans within them.

Judaism, Christianity and Islam each say that humans can become one with God. Jews believe that we can become part of God by becoming like him, by imitating his ways and his character. Jesus says that we can love God as he loves us, and that we can do this by becoming like him.

Muslims believe we can become like God through following the Koran and all its teachings.
